Blessing of Prayer Shawls
Loving God, you sent your Son to heal our brokenness with your love. We give you thanks for those inspired by that love to create these gifts of caring for those who are sick or sorrowing. Bless these shawls with your love and healing grace, so they may bring comfort and strength to those who receive them as signs of your presence to lives and theirs. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit are the source of all healing and life. Amen.
About us
Located in the heart of Lebanon, OR, for over 50 years the St. Martin’s Episcopal Church has served its parishioners and community.
We are served by multiple clergy including the Fathers Robert M. and Tom M. and Rev. Deacon Keena S.
Meet Father Tom M.
At St. Martin’s you will find four things that you might be familiar with during the service:
- We take communion each Sunday.
- We recite the Nicene Creed
- We pray the Lord’s Prayer
- We sing during the service to praise the Lord!
The Rt. Rev.
Diana Akiyama,
Bishop of Episcopal Church in
Western Oregon
Presider & Celebrant
The Rt. Rev. Diana Akiyama was born in Wheeler, Oregon and grew up in a Japanese-American community in Hood River. Bishop Akiyama was the first Japanese-American woman ordained to the priesthood in The Episcopal Church in 1989 by the Rt. Rev. Rustin Kimsey, Diocese of Eastern Oregon.
She holds a Ph.D. in Religion and Social Ethics from the University of Southern California (2001). Before returning to Oregon to serve as our 11th bishop, she served as the Vicar at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Kapaau, Hawai’i and as Dean at Waiolaihui’ia School of Formation for the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai’i.
Feast of St. Martin of Tours
St. Martin began his life as a Roman soldier. He was born of pagan parents in November of 397 AD. He famously petitioned Julian the Apostate to be released. He stated he was a soldier for Christ and was not allowed to fight. While in the Roman army he cut a piece of his cloak to share with a beggar. He dreamt of Jesus that night and awoke to a whole cloak. He immediately finished his religious instruction and was baptized.
COLLECT OF ST. MARTIN’S
Lord God of hosts, you clothed your servant Martin the soldier with the spirit of sacrifice and set him as a bishop in your Church to be a defender of the catholic faith:
Give us grace to follow in his holy steps, that, at the last, we may be found clothed with righteousness in the dwellings of peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who
lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Knitting and Crocheting Shawls for Hospital
We support our local hospital by knitting and crocheting washable shawls. We meet at the church on Wednesday morning. We use a special washable yarn that helps the shawls do double duty as beautiful warm pieces that can be santized.
Home Communion & Pastoral Visits
For members of the parish, the clergy bring communion to home-bound and provide pastoral care.
Crossroad Communities Partnership
St. Martin’s collaborates with Crossroads Communities to meeting specific needs of low-come and seniors facing challenging life situations. If you know someone in need contact:
